I write this feature with sincere gratitude. When Lyn Stephen ’57 retired from her work as Balmoral Hall School’s librarian 16 years ago, she began volunteering in School Archives.Almost every week, Lyn has spent her Tuesday mornings preserving precious alumnae memories.
She is now officially “retiring” from her volunteer position as school archivist, and (quietly, as per her request) we are honoured to pay tribute to her many years of dedication.
Lyn has responded to countless inquiries from alumnae around the world. She has prepared displays for reunions, hosted tours for students, provided resources for teachers, polished trophies for Closing Exercises, and catalogued hundreds of items.
Sue Piper, a retired Kindergarten teacher, began assisting Lyn a few years ago and shares the joy of receiving a new donation. Sometimes, the addition is a pin, a blazer, a House tie, or a ring. As well, alumnae have given photos, yearbooks, newspaper articles, and even entire scrapbooks! Sue notes that every week is a walk down memory lane and that care is taken with every item received to honour the person who thought of the school with their donation.
Our mission at Balmoral Hall School is to inspire girls’ imagination and the courage to excel, to reach, to lead, to care.
We are a nondenominational independent day and boarding school, educating students from Junior Nursery to Grade 12.
