Dr. Mitchell-Pellett has been an educator for over 25 years committed to supporting the social/emotional development and mental health needs of students of all ages through a variety of roles such as school counsellor, administrator, and divisional consultant. As a registered counselor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, she currently serves as a school counsellor (K-12) at Balmoral School and she also has a part-time private practice as a therapist, supporting youth and families with a variety of anxiety-related concerns through various modalities such as play-therapy, expressive arts, narrative therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches. She has been an avid mindfulness practitioner for 30 years and obtained her Mindfulness Teacher Certification through the International Mindfulness Teachers Association.

Additionally, Dr. Mitchell-Pellett believes in whole-person, systemic, and comprehensive approaches to address the complexities inherent in wellness & wellbeing, and thus she is a strong advocate for the Comprehensive School Health model that is utilized widely across Canadian schools. She is also dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of teachers and school leaders, and is co-editor of the book, Leading with Heart: Enacting Self-Care, Collective Care, and Justice (Burns & Mitchell-Pellett, 2020), a collection of stories written by her former graduate students studying how to be “well” teacher-leaders at the University of Calgary. She received a Teaching Award from the Taylor Institute of Teaching and Learning (University of Calgary) in 2019 for her work in this program and she also teaches school counselling courses within the Post Baccalaureate Diploma Program in Education at the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Mitchell-Pellett brings a comprehensive and focused lens to her work with at Balmoral Hall School, as she works with students individually or in larger classroom projects, integrating and blending curriculum with social/emotional learning and development.
