I cannot believe I am already in my third year of teaching at Balmoral Hall School. During this time, I have had the most wonderful experiences teaching Middle School voice, Senior School choir, and vocal jazz. Over the past three years, our choirs have enjoyed many performance opportunities, including participating in pop-up concerts, festivals, Arts & Design Exhibitions, and school assemblies and events. I am also the music director for Middle & Senior School musical productions. Together with my colleagues and students, we have produced six shows in three years! I am very proud of our students' commitment and dedication to Balmoral Hall School's performing arts department!
As I grew up studying voice and piano, I was encouraged by amazing teachers who inspired me to become a music educator. Teaching music has been a passion of mine since I graduated from University of Regina with a Bachelor of Music Education. Over the years, I have continued my studies in music education through University of Regina and University of Manitoba. For 16 years, I taught high school band, jazz band, choir, vocal jazz, musical theatre, and drama in Moose Jaw, Sask. During this time, I also volunteered on music festival committees, mentored music education student-teachers, and continued to perform in choirs and as a vocal soloist.
In 2015, my family and I moved to Winnipeg from Moose Jaw, and we are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this vibrant community. When I began teaching at Balmoral Hall in 2017, I was very excited to be a part of this incredible school that supports and fosters arts programming and education. I believe that music education is an essential part of a student's learning journey. The lifelong lessons that music education provides are invaluable to our students' growth. I feel inspired and grateful to teach in Benidickson Centre for Arts & Design, where learning opportunities for collaborating, creating, producing, and performing are encouraged and celebrated.
